Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! As long as you have some previous experience, just so you know the basics, you’re welcome to join at your own pace.

  • Classes are aimed at an intermediate level and taught with adult dancers in mind. Any challenging moves will include variations to ensure everyone can feel comfortable joining in.

  • The classes will be held in the Square Edge Loft Dance Studio.

It's at the end of Jersey Lane, (off Fitzherbert Ave between Navajo and Waitomo), through the gate, and round the corner to the left. The dance studio door is in the far corner, up the stairs and round to the left. Continue down the hallway, and you'll be in the studio!

See the directions video above for a walk through.

  • Any active wear or clothing you can comfortably move around in is perfectly fine. Leggings or long pants can be helpful for the heels and contemporary classes if there’s any floor work involved.

    • Ballet class: Leotards and tights are not required, but you’re welcome to wear them if you prefer. Ballet shoes are recommended.

    • Musical Theatre: Jazz shoes or sneakers are ideal, and character heels are also great if you have them.

    • Heels class: Wear heels if you have them, but sneakers, socks, or bare feet are also great options.

    • Contemporary: Jazz shoes, sneakers, toe undies or bare feet are all welcome.

  • Ballet shoes are recommended for the ballet class. If you don’t own ballet shoes, jazz shoes, socks, toe undies, or bare feet are all fine.

Please note the ballet classes are not en pointe, only soft shoes will be needed.

  • Wearing heels is completely optional. You’re welcome to dance in sneakers, socks, jazz shoes, or bare feet if you prefer.

If you do choose to wear heels, a chunkier heel is recommended if you’re less confident. Character shoes or Latin heels also work well. Ultimately, any heels you feel stable and confident in are suitable.
